When MINI approached us to adapt an existing international commercial for the North American market, the challenge was clear: the spot had already been fully produced—but featured a different vehicle model. Our task was to seamlessly replace the car so convincingly that no viewer would suspect the change.

One of the most complex aspects of the project was matching the original lighting, highlights, and environmental reflections—including accurate road surfaces, skyline reflections, and weather conditions. Our team conducted extensive location research, studying global city environments to find comparable streets and atmospheric conditions. Using Google Maps and reference imagery, we identified adaptable locations and meticulously rebuilt reflections and paint materials to match the original footage with precision.

Technically, the process required advanced camera tracking using SynthEyes to generate accurate 3D data, which was then imported into 3ds Max. From there, we aligned the shots, recreated lighting environments, and composited the updated vehicle into the footage with frame-by-frame accuracy.

The final result was virtually indistinguishable from the original production. The MINI team was astonished by the seamless integration—unable to detect any changes without directly comparing before-and-after frames. The project stands as a testament to our team’s technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and commitment to preserving brand integrity while adapting content for regional markets.
